History

The "American football" Boston Braves, owned by George Preston Marshall, entered the National Football League in 1932 after the Newark Tornadoes team retired and played at the Braves Field, home of the Boston Braves of "baseball." They tried to have their headquarters in New York, but they were blocked by the Territorial Rule of the NFL.

Lud Wray was hired as the first head coach of the then Braves, and was led by Hall of Famers Cliff Battles (running back) and Turk Edwards (offensive tackle). Their first match was on October 2, 1932 and they lost to the Brooklyn Dodgers.5 The following week they would win the first game of their history beating the New York Giants by 14 points to 6. The Braves would end their first season with a 4 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws.

In 1933, the team moved to Fenway Park and changed its name to Boston Redskins.

The Redskins finished the 1933 season with a record of 5-5-2.10 In 1934 they had a record of 6-6. In 1935, with trainer Eddie Casey, they had a frightful campaign scoring just 65 points and finishing with a record of 2-8-1. In 1936, under the tutelage of their fourth coach Ray Flaherty, they won the final three games beating their opponents by a 74-point overall score against 6, winning the Eastern Division Championship with a 7-5 record.

However, thanks to low fan attendance, highlighted by the sale of only 4,813 tickets at Fenway Park to see the Redskins beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 30-0, George Preston Marshall chose to give up the home game advantage and Played the game for the NFL Championship at the then New York Giants stadium, the Polo Grounds.

Battles was injured in the tenth play of the game and Green Bay won the championship by 21-6. The Redskins moved to Washington the following season due to lack of support from fans in Boston.
