Indianapolis Colts Team Roster 2018

Indianapolis Colts Roster

The Indianapolis Colts is a professional American football team that participates in the National Football League. Following the merger of the National and American Leagues in 1970, they are part of the Southern Division of the American Conference; Sharing it (since the 2002 expansion) with the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.

The team was based in Baltimore until 1983 before moving to the state capital of Indiana, its current headquarters.

Traditionally, its colors are blue and white, local, and as visitors play totally white.

They currently play their home games at Lucas Oil Stadium.

In 2007, after winning the American Conference by defeating the New England Patriots by 38 to 34, they won the Super Bowl XLI on February 4 in Miami, Florida, beating the Chicago Bears 29-17. Former quarterback Peyton Manning was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the final. In fact, Manning, who played for the Colts from 1998 to February 2012, is considered one of the best players in the NFL, having won the MVP title in the 2003-04 season where he also got the Highest rating in NFL history with 121.1.

After winning the Super Bowl XLI, the Colts and Manning managed to get rid of the bad reputation of being "very good but never winning the big prize", in reference to that they got very good marks in the regular season but fell earlier than expected in The postseason.

They arrived three years later to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami again, but they were surprised by the New Orleans Saints.

The roots of the franchise come from December 28, 1946, when the Miami Seahawks' bankruptcy of the All-American Football Conference prompted their purchase and transfer to Baltimore by a group headed by Bob Rodenberg. As a result of a contest in Baltimore, won by Charles Evans of Middle River, Maryland, the team was renamed "Colts." On September 7, 1947, in green and silver uniforms, the Colts, under head coach Isbell Cecil, won their starting game AAFC, 16-7, over the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The team finished its inaugural season with a record 51,583 spectators losing to the New York Yankees, 21-7. The Colts finished with a record of 2-11-1, which was a fourth place in the Eastern Division. The Colts finished the 1948 season with a 7-8 record, tying the Buffalo Bills for the division title. The Colts were 1-11 in 1949. The AAFC and the NFL merged in 1950, and the Colts joined the NFL. After recording a record of 1-11 for the second consecutive year, the franchise was disbanded by the league on January 18, 1951, due to its lack of financial stability.

After two seasons without professional football, NFL commissioner Bert Bell challenged the franchise in December 1952 to sell 15,000 season passes in just six weeks to once again allow them to enter the NFL. That quota of 15,000 tickets was reached in four weeks and three days. On January 23, 1953, under the main property of Carroll Rosenbloom, the Dallas (Texans) franchise moved to Baltimore, where, maintaining the nickname "Colts", the colors of the blue and white Texans team were inherited.
